The Association of Private Security Owners of South Africa has called in the Hawks to investigate allegations of corruption and violation of the public finance management act by the department of Justice.
The department is alleged to have appointed three companies to provide security services cross the country’s courts to the tune of over 2 billion rand.
Tapsosa says the department called for service providers to submit quotations for security services.
But according to treasury regulations, contracts with the value exceeding half a million rand should go through a normal competitive bid.
The Association’s spokesperson Sindisiwe Changuion explains that the department of Justice had breached regulatory framework by overriding some procedures in procurement.
“They have once again violated the Public Finance Management Act by bypassing competitive bid processes required”.
“In particular when involved with a project with the amount in excess of R500 000”, explained Changuion.
A senior Official in the department of Justice was suspended on allegations of corruption in the irregular appointment of the service providers awarded the R2 billion contract.
Tapsosa will meet on Thursday 18 March to deliberate on corruption allegations corruption withing the Department of Justice and decide on further action.
